The Chattam

The Chattam was the result of the revival project, part of the TypeMedia's first semester curriculum. The book I choose to study and revive its type was The Life of Michiel De Ruiter. A book written in Dutch by Gerard Brandt and published by the Society for good and cheap literature in 1913, Amsterdam. I was fascinated by the Slab-Serif, which to my surprise was used for text and had produced a remarkable colour on the pages of the book. Though the actual identity of the typeface was not established, the project included a research paper comprising the historical overview of the Clarendons and the Slab-serifs, the origins and the aspects of the styles, and a description of the process to revive a typeface.
